Dry season turns Sg Pinang pitch black
Experts fear river pollution could affect marine life

GEORGE TOWN: The surface of Sungai Pinang is now covered with a layer of black sludge due to the dry season, further polluting one of the country’s dirtiest rivers.

The river, which is the main artery, has six tributaries, namely Sungai Air Terjun, Sungai Kecil, Sungai Air Putih, Sungai Ayer Itam, Sungai Dondang and Sungai Jelutong.

But there are fears that the polluted river could affect the rich source of marine life and floating fish farms at the middle bank.

No fish could be seen on the surface of the water at the river mouth near Karpal Singh Drive in Jelutong recently.
