Both MWA and AWA are looking at a closer cooperation and therefore, a Memorandum of Understanding is developed to covering the areas that are potentially beneficial for both countries - education and training, trade and business matching, policy and regulation, capacity building, exchange programme for young water professionals. The MoU was signed and exchanged during the Asia Water 2014 Conference & Exhibition witnessed by the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Malaysia.
The Chief Executive of AWA, Mr. Jonathan McKeown delivered a Keynote Address at the Conference titled “How Australia Has Structured Its Water Sector and the Development of Independent Price Regulators”.

Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) has gazette and published the Water Services Industry (Water Reticulation and Plumbing) Rules 2014 which came into operation on 1 February 2014. Along with this document, SPAN has also published Uniform Technical Guidelines (UTG) with respect to the particular responsibilities of the various parties involved in implementing water distribution facilities inclusive of planning, design, construction, installation, testing and commissioning, and handing over.
